Unspoken Shadow Falls After Dark C C Hunter Books

I found all the books from this series highly entertaining, and well worth the time to read. CC Hunter does craft a narrative in which you cannot help but you care very much for the characters. I do feel when looking back on this Trilogy we get a lot less of Shadow Falls itself with only a handful of characters from the original series. In a way though it does make the story more personal and the stakes are raised for Della in which while the world may not be in danger those around her and her own life and well-being is. I will say as much as I could plain below the author had to have done something right because I have purchased Miranda's final book as well as the short stories.

At the same time I do feel while this book was entertaining it was a step back in a few ways. Some of the stylistic choices in writing really through off the pacing. The story does feel a lot more choppy in plot and structure then in the previous Shadow Fall's books as if larger story was crammed into one book instead of two or three. Whereas all of the books in a series has the annoying habit of having bad Cliffhangers at the end of every chapter this book takes it to an extreme with the additional POV from Chase having Cliffhangers at many of the POV shifts. If this was a scary movie it would be like having the cat jump out of the closet every 5 minutes.

There's also the uncomfortable fact that the character of Jimmy who was the man who saved Chase in his origin story and he was referred to as Jimmy in previous books of the trilogy suddenly has his name changed to Eddie for this book. This happened early on and was very very distracting along with the addition of the new POV. The addition of a new POV while having the benefit of allowing the reader to know more of what is going on with the story did come off a bit as if the author needed a space filler. While it is not unusual for additional povs to be added in series it did feel a bit wonky to have it suddenly appear at the last book of a spin-off trilogy in which the officers had yet to do it in the main series. It also made it obvious which points of Love Triangle mattered.
In the end with it does feel like the author phoned it in a bit or had lost a certain passion for the story. Granted I am not the target audience for this YA story so my views maybe a bit skewed.

Unspoken Shadow Falls After Dark C C Hunter Books Reviews

A perfect end to a fantastic series, UNSPOKEN delivers two exciting and danger-filled mysteries, a tumultuous love story, a caustic but lovable heroine, a charming and swoon-worthy if not entirely trustworthy male protagonist, an overprotective but heroic father figure, a couple of persistent ghosts, several beloved characters, humorous dialogue, great writing, and an emotional roller coaster ride or a few. It promises to be wildly entertaining, completely captivating, more than a little bit nerve-wracking, unputdownable. And it ties up all loose ends that pertain to Della, her family, her love interests, and the crimes she’s dead set on solving by the story’s end.

Della Tsang never meant for her father to become the prime suspect in the much too personal case she reopened and has yet to solve. But if she can’t find a way to prove his innocence – because he has to be innocent, right? – she’s not sure how she’ll be able to live with the guilt of being responsible for his incarceration and for destroying her family even more than she already has.

With an irate ghost absolutely certain he’s to blame, evidence mounting against him, and time running out, she won’t be able to clear his name on her own. Not without the help of Burnett and the FRU. And not without Chase Tallman, the vampire who she hoped to never see again, who broke her heart and her trust, who claims to have information that could lead to the killer and exonerate her father.

As long as she can ignore their bond and the feelings she may or may not still have for him, she’ll be okay. She has to be. Because with her father all but having given up on his own defense, she’s the only one left capable of fighting for him.

C.C. Hunter does a marvelous job re-immersing readers into the Shadow Falls world and re-connecting them with her story and characters. In the first few pages she will make them laugh, tug at their heartstrings, and ensnare them with a new mystery for Della to investigate.

She allows them to see even more of what’s going on by telling the story from both Della’s and Chase’s point of view. With Della, she gives them a stubborn and determined and headstrong character who is also funny and vulnerable and eager to make things right. With Chase, she reveals someone who is remorseful, desperate for forgiveness but anxious that it won’t ever happen, and who wants to be the vampire that Della needs him to be.

The result is a story that is immediately engaging, positively delightful, edge-of-your-seat suspenseful, laugh-out-loud hilarious, and utterly riveting.

UNSPOKEN is a must for fans of this series, for readers who love their heroines with a bit of an attitude, a touch of snark, the ability to kick some a**, and who guard their heart, for those who enjoy a not-so-easy to solve mystery, for those who love their romances stormy, sizzling, and not instantly decided, and for those readers that insist upon a well-rounded cast of characters, a well-developed world, and truly wonderful writing.
